In our townhouse, service is impeccably professional but never intrusive. Stepping off Rosario Street, in the Bombarda neighborhood and slipping through an unassuming entrance, our guests are met with welcoming smiles from us. At breakfast, tea, brunch or dinner, you will never be disappointed.

Breakfast, brunch and all things in between are served from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm in the ground-floor room or in the garden (weather permitting). Enjoy it the most because our homemade yogurts, muesli, scones, jam and bread are amazing.
During the afternoon, you can have some cake and tea in the garden. Before going out for dinner around town, why not sip a glass of Portuguese wine or a cocktail in our garden? Even better! Why not take part in our dining experiences at Townhouse? Our chefs will be delighted to create a special and unique menu for you and your guests.

The menu emphasizes vibrant fresh vegetables and local herbs, meticulously prepared to preserve individual flavors, making for a rare culinary experience. We described it as a refined symbiosis between gourmet and local. It is honest food.

Homemade, local and sustainable are not just words for us. They are our way of life
Fresh seasonal vegetables are brought from local and organic markets and suppliers every other day to the townhouse. This allows us to put on your table the best ingredients and produce of the season and let them speak for themselves. With the naked eye, it is not always easy to tell whether a product comes from a store or from a nearby producer, but one bite changes everything. Down a cup of hot coffee from our local supplier or a bowl of natural yoghurt with granola made by our townhouse kitchen with organic ingredients and your senses will be awakened.

At ROSA ET AL Townhouse we are proud to say that we buy locally or we produce in our kitchen most things we serve at breakfast, tea, brunch and dinner. Yes, it would be easier and cheaper to get them commercially, but that is not our concern. Sustainability and good farming and producing practices are crucial for us. Not all sustainability efforts are noticeable at first glance, but settle in for a stay and very soon it all begins to unfold itself – quite naturally! We visit Porto’s organic markets every weekend and buy fresh vegetables and fruit. The flour used to bake the yummy scones and the delicious bread is organic and Portuguese. We work with some of the best organic suppliers and traditional producers. Every week we receive a basket full of organic vegetables and fruits which are used to make our soups, fresh salads, jams and chutneys, fruit juices and ice creams. Homemade, organic and local are not just words for us. They are our way of life, the one we have chosen for us and for our hotel.
Protecting traditions and old methods
Focused on the Atlantic Diet, characteristic of the region around Porto and the northern part of Portugal and Spain, our cuisine safeguard traditions, recuperating techniques but constructing long-lasting relations with local producers to help maintain local traditions alive. Old methods are inspected daily and re-introduced in our kitchen as a form of recuperating also flavors, textures and experiences that would be lost otherwise.

honest seasonal and slow food, gathered from local suppliers and skillfully prepared by the Townhouse kitchen artisans

‘Why not a new meal, served around noon [ until 4pm, we say ], that starts with tea or coffee, marmalade and other breakfast fixtures before moving along to heavier fare? By eliminating the need to get up early on Sunday, [ and please also on saturday at least and any day-off or holiday really ] brunch would make life brighter for saturday— [ or any other night ] —night carousers... Brunch is cheerful, sociable and inciting [ and basically a dream come true ]. T.E.A.
A bit of history as a starter. In the 16th Century, Portugal became the first European country to create commercial routes to China to establish the tea trade.
In 1661, the Portuguese Princess Catarina de Bragança (Catherine of Braganza) married King Charles II of England and had to move up north to join the king. It was known at the time that the young queen-to-be was very fond of tea and was sipping on a daily basis. She even packed loose-leaf tea on her trip that which is believed to have been part of her dowry. A legend has it that the crates were marked Transporte de Ervas Aromáticas (Transport of Aromatic Herbs) which was later abbreviated to T.E.A. When Queen Catherine arrived in England, tea was being consumed as a medicine. However, the young queen continued her daily tea drinking habit, making tea a popular social beverage and installing the famous British tradition of having tea at five o’clock in the afternoon sharp. We try to keep the tradition every other day, no matter what time it is.

BLACK
Black teas are made by picking the tea leaves then rolling and drying them.
The leaves are slightly bruised which causes them to become ‘oxidized’, as leaves start to ferment. The leaves become darker in color and causes the resulting brew to have that delicious, strong flavor and more of a caffeine kick than other teas. Thus, strong enough to take milk and sugar. Enjoy!

WHITE
White teas are made from delicate, young tea leaves and can only be picked at certain times of the year when the tea plant forms new buds.
It undergoes the least amount of processing with no oxidization, rolling or steaming of the leaves involved. The buds are just picked and then dried, so it really is tea at its purest. It also contains the lowest levels of caffeine and is the highest in antioxidants with a myriad of health benefits. Enjoy!

ROIBOOS AND TISANES
While we tend to call anything we brew with hot water a ‘tea’, technically speaking, only the products of the Camellia Sinesis plant are teas.
Other plants and herbs commonly brew with hot water like chamomile, mint and Rooibos are not actually ‘teas’ because, well, they do not come from the tea plant. Thus, the correct term would be an ‘infusion’ or a ’tisane’.

August 14 — 17 — COURAÍSO

Often times, the best meals take place at 'home' and not at a restaurant. That is why ROSA ET AL Townhouse created the Supper Club, a special private dinner that takes place once or twice a month at the townhouse premises or elsewhere to be announced. Let's keep it a secret, just like a true epicurean private club.

And, secrets aside, the supperclub is every othe rmotnh back to our beloded 'mother house', the Townhouse in Cedofeita, in the beautiful Invicta city of Porto, for a new series of supperclubs thru the seasons and traditions along the year. Anytime is definitely 'thy time' to gather friends around a table, share hearty dishes and several bottles of wine in a truly epicurean evening.

Beyond our doors, in 2023, the Townhouse Supper Club will go back on tour during the spring and summer months, from North to South of Portugal and beyond — brand new exciting news coming soon! From Porto to Algarve, from Lisbon to Paredes de Coura a.k.a. Couraíso, et al, we will surely host a party for a single night or a few days/eves, in dreamy places that are always more or less secret.

Join us for an evening to remember.
WHAT IS A SUPPER CLUB?
A supper club is a traditional style of carte blanche dining that is only open after supper hours and it functions as a club where people socialize with no membership fee. Supper clubs involve dining with strangers in intimate venues which can be a chef’s own house or a distinct space beyond the normal restaurant rooms.
HISTORY OF THE SUPPERCLUB

In 1937 London, the first supper club in Britain, Half Hundred Club, was established “to combine good dining with economy” and hosted in random locations. Members were limited to 25 and they each could bring along a guest, possessing “no unsociable characteristics” that may hinder conversations. Over time, the concept of supper clubs evolved in London to fulfill the need for casual get-togethers and social connections over food.

During the the 1930s in the United States, the concept of supper clubs became popular in the midwest. supper clubs were places where people socialized and celebrated with alcohol. They would show up in their best outfit to enjoy a fancy meal with drinks and this would go on for many hours. Some consider supper clubs the country version of the urban nightclub, but more casual.

A similar concept of underground dining called Paladares has emerged in Cuba in 1993. Paladares are small, family-run restaurants, usually in a converted part of a home. The name came from a Brazilian telenovela that was aired on Cuban TV called Vale Tudo and showed a restaurant chain with the name Paladar, the Portuguese word for “to taste”. Nowadays, they are a huge part of Cuban cuisine and its history.

THE TOWNHOUSE SUPPERCLUB
The Supper Clubs are informal and intimate evenings that gather people from different backgrounds, creating a community around a table that feels like you are at a friend’s house. The ever-changing multi-course seasonal dinner set the pace of  conversations and fuel the curiosity about ancestral gastronomic practices in Portugal.

Inspired by the Atlantic Diet, characteristic in this region and gathering the fresh food, each Supper Club, is crafted by a team of talented cooks and artisans. The food is made from scratch, by hand, focusing on high-quality organic ingredients and locally and regionally sourced products. Thus, renewing the centuries-old traditions and techniques of gastronomy, where fermentation gains a prominence. The Supper Club is an experience open to the public, local, regional, national and international beyond the inhouse guests. It follows the tradition of carte blanche dinner that Patrícia and Emanuel Sousa – brothers and owners of ROSA ET AL Townhouse – have been performing with guests since 2012.

When the hottest days approach, suppers in the aromatic garden transform the whole experience as the guests will be hugged by the aromas that are oftentimes are included in one of the courses of the dinner. The scents of lavender or rosemary tell us that we are in a real sanctuary in the heart of the city.

'– Going to the supper club wasn’t only about dinner; it was a social event.'

TAKE OVER
And throughout the year, the supper club receives the special participation of national and international chefs. They are invited to have dinner at four hands or in takeover format, in delivery to the concept of sharing, of respect for the essence of Portuguese products and the recreation of the philosophy that is in the basis of the yearly meetings.

We are always eager to know more about other chefs and cuisines, talk to us if you would like to partner up with our team or if you have a local product you would like to share.

Our suppers club can take place around town or anywhere in Portugal. If you fancy a specific location or if you would like to partner up with us, we will be happy to hear from you.
