Often times, the best meals take place at 'home' and not at a restaurant. That is why ROSA ET AL Townhouse created the Supper Club, a special private dinner that takes place once or twice a month at the townhouse premises or elsewhere to be announced. Let's keep it a secret, just like a true epicurean private club.

And, secrets aside, the supperclub is every othe rmotnh back to our beloded 'mother house', the Townhouse in Cedofeita, in the beautiful Invicta city of Porto, for a new series of supperclubs thru the seasons and traditions along the year. Anytime is definitely 'thy time' to gather friends around a table, share hearty dishes and several bottles of wine in a truly epicurean evening.

Beyond our doors, in 2023, the Townhouse Supper Club will go back on tour during the spring and summer months, from North to South of Portugal and beyond — brand new exciting news coming soon! From Porto to Algarve, from Lisbon to Paredes de Coura a.k.a. Couraíso, et al, we will surely host a party for a single night or a few days/eves, in dreamy places that are always more or less secret.

Join us for an evening to remember.
WHAT IS A SUPPER CLUB?
A supper club is a traditional style of carte blanche dining that is only open after supper hours and it functions as a club where people socialize with no membership fee. Supper clubs involve dining with strangers in intimate venues which can be a chef’s own house or a distinct space beyond the normal restaurant rooms.
HISTORY OF THE SUPPERCLUB

In 1937 London, the first supper club in Britain, Half Hundred Club, was established “to combine good dining with economy” and hosted in random locations. Members were limited to 25 and they each could bring along a guest, possessing “no unsociable characteristics” that may hinder conversations. Over time, the concept of supper clubs evolved in London to fulfill the need for casual get-togethers and social connections over food.

During the the 1930s in the United States, the concept of supper clubs became popular in the midwest. supper clubs were places where people socialized and celebrated with alcohol. They would show up in their best outfit to enjoy a fancy meal with drinks and this would go on for many hours. Some consider supper clubs the country version of the urban nightclub, but more casual.

A similar concept of underground dining called Paladares has emerged in Cuba in 1993. Paladares are small, family-run restaurants, usually in a converted part of a home. The name came from a Brazilian telenovela that was aired on Cuban TV called Vale Tudo and showed a restaurant chain with the name Paladar, the Portuguese word for “to taste”. Nowadays, they are a huge part of Cuban cuisine and its history.

THE TOWNHOUSE SUPPERCLUB
The Supper Clubs are informal and intimate evenings that gather people from different backgrounds, creating a community around a table that feels like you are at a friend’s house. The ever-changing multi-course seasonal dinner set the pace of  conversations and fuel the curiosity about ancestral gastronomic practices in Portugal.

Inspired by the Atlantic Diet, characteristic in this region and gathering the fresh food, each Supper Club, is crafted by a team of talented cooks and artisans. The food is made from scratch, by hand, focusing on high-quality organic ingredients and locally and regionally sourced products. Thus, renewing the centuries-old traditions and techniques of gastronomy, where fermentation gains a prominence. The Supper Club is an experience open to the public, local, regional, national and international beyond the inhouse guests. It follows the tradition of carte blanche dinner that Patrícia and Emanuel Sousa – brothers and owners of ROSA ET AL Townhouse – have been performing with guests since 2012.

When the hottest days approach, suppers in the aromatic garden transform the whole experience as the guests will be hugged by the aromas that are oftentimes are included in one of the courses of the dinner. The scents of lavender or rosemary tell us that we are in a real sanctuary in the heart of the city.

'– Going to the supper club wasn’t only about dinner; it was a social event.'

TAKE OVER
And throughout the year, the supper club receives the special participation of national and international chefs. They are invited to have dinner at four hands or in takeover format, in delivery to the concept of sharing, of respect for the essence of Portuguese products and the recreation of the philosophy that is in the basis of the yearly meetings.

We are always eager to know more about other chefs and cuisines, talk to us if you would like to partner up with our team or if you have a local product you would like to share.

Our suppers club can take place around town or anywhere in Portugal. If you fancy a specific location or if you would like to partner up with us, we will be happy to hear from you.
